Suppression of Cephalosporium maydis by the resistance inducer beta-sitosterol

Abstract Late wilt, a vascular disease caused by the fungus of Cephalosporium maydis , is considered one Egypt’s most severe maize threats. The purpose this study was to investigate suppressive effect resistance inducer beta-sitosterol on C. as well its involvement in reducing incidence late wilt infection under greenhouse and field conditions. In vitro studies potato dextrose yeast extract agar (PDYA) and/or broth (PDYB) with doses 50, 100, 150, 200, 250 ppm, significantly reduced colony diameter spore germination . efficiency increased concentration, ppm being efficient, development 100% 77.3%. Experiments were conducted trials using split-plot design three application methods (maize grain dipping, foliar spraying, dipping spraying) two cultivars (a land race cultivar fine seed 1005). both trials, combination treatment spraying effective. Under conditions, treatments improved growth parameters (plant height, plant fresh weight, dry weight) cultivars. similar activity protective enzymes (peroxidase, polyphenoloxidase, chitinase) levels chlorophyll, total phenols, flavonoids When compared untreated control, ear yield plots treated trial. findings showed that inhibited vivo. As result, could be used improve disease.
